On August 7, Ezhou Huahu International Airport and Etihad Cargo held a launch ceremony to begin cooperation on establishing an Abu Dhabi Overseas Warehouse. This milestone marks a major breakthrough in Ezhou Huahu’s Middle East strategy, laying a solid foundation for future route development, cargo consolidation, and deepened cooperation.
The initiative is backed by a CNY 2.5 billion aviation industry development fund and CNY 50 million in incentive funding, reinforcing Ezhou Huahu’s vision to become a world-class air cargo hub.
The “Ezhou–Abu Dhabi” all-cargo route, jointly operated by SF Airlines and Etihad Cargo since August 2023, has already completed over 550 flights, transporting more than 28,000 tonnes of cargo. Flight frequencies have steadily increased, with services expected to reach daily operations this year. In 2025, the network will expand to include Ezhou–Abu Dhabi–Paris/Frankfurt, creating a two-way China–Middle East–Europe transit corridor.
Ezhou Huahu Airport is Asia’s first and China’s only professional cargo hub airport, with two 3,600m runways, a 700,000+ sqm transfer center, and a 1.5-hour flight radius covering 90% of China’s economy. Its rapid international route expansion — now 45 cargo routes to 48 destinations — is attracting major global carriers, boosting both exports of Chinese manufacturing and imports from the Middle East.
Etihad Cargo Chief Cargo Officer Stanislas Brun highlighted that this milestone reflects “a new level of operational efficiency and network reach, especially for time-sensitive cross-border e-commerce and high-tech cargo, while strengthening trade flows between China and the Middle East.”
